04. Why I built Edit Portal

I’m Liz, or otherwise known as Editedbyliz.

Edit Portal was the place I wish I had when I started editing. This began as a small project, but has now turned into something way bigger.

While I was editing, I was getting annoyed by the struggle of making the perfect edit audio, converting AE files and marking beats. I began to question how I could solve these problems for myself, and I decided to start making tools that could help me with the problems I kept having.

When I finished building the tools and saw that they worked and improved my workflow, I began wondering if other people could benefit from them as well. I decided to make a website where I could host these tools for free so other editors could use them.

But then I started thinking bigger. I didn’t only want a website where people could use these editing tools, but also a place where editors would come together and help each other. That is where Edit Portal began. I not only wanted to help other editors, but I also wanted a community. A community where every editor would feel welcome regardless of their niche, skill level or app. A place where people can share their own experiences, socialize and help each other. This is why I built Edit Portal, and why it is the way it is now.

If you get the right help and advice, you can learn anything as long as you’re willing to put in the time and effort.

I started with graphic design, then moved to coding and later editing. I always thought editing was way more difficult than graphic design, but what I realized is that if you get the right help and advice, you can learn anything as long as you’re willing to put in the time and effort.

I can confidently say that editing is definitely something I don’t regret spending my time on. Editing is a great skill to have, not only because of the possibilities it offers, but also because of everything you learn. It teaches you patience (a lot of it sometimes...), problem solving and creativity, and it lets you keep improving your work. There is always something new to learn.

I hope Edit Portal can be a place where people can discover that for themselves. Whether you’re just starting out or have been editing for years, I want Edit Portal to help you learn, improve, find inspiration, and connect with other people who share the same passion. Edit Portal is more than just a collection of tools. It’s something I built out of my own experiences, with the hope of helping other editors (re)discover their passion for editing.

If Edit Portal has helped even one person with their editing, then I believe all the time and effort I put into this project has been fully worth it.Liz
